Ritual Supporting Restaurants through New Donation Feature

TORONTO — Toronto-based order-ahead platform, Ritual, has launched an initiative allowing customers to donate to their local restaurants through the Ritual app.

By searching “donate” in the app, users can find restaurants near them seeking support during the COVID-19 crisis. Donation options are displayed under “COVID Support Fund” on each restaurant’s in-app menu.

Ritual will match donations up to a total of US$25,000, with 100-per-cent of the donations going directly to the restaurants customers select.

“The global COVID-19 pandemic has had a sudden and devastating impact on the restaurant industry, which has in turn impacted our business. Our hearts go out to our merchants and their employees who have been affected by COVID-19 — they serve as the life of the cities in which we operate, and we remain steadfastly committed to supporting this amazing community,” reads a recent statement from Ritual co-founders Ray Reddy, Larry Stinson and Robert Kim.

This statement also announced Ritual was “taking necessary steps to restructure” as a result of COVID-19, which includes reducing its global workforce by “more than half.”

“This is an unprecedented situation, but our vision and the core of our business remains strong,” the statement concludes. “Ritual is built on providing a platform that allows local communities to come together. This will continue to be our focus, as we support our customers and merchants now and in the future.”
