Toronto’s Fonda Lola to Expand Through Crowdfunding Campaign

TORONTO — Fonda Lola is reaching out to its customers and members of the public to raise funds through an Indiegogo campaign, which will see the construction of a second restaurant location and new tequila tasting room.

“We are looking for members who believe in Fonda Lola the way we believe in it, as the best Mexican restaurant in Canada,” the site reads. “We are preparing to make Fonda Lola the most prominent Mexican restaurant in Toronto.”

The owners are raising capital through a new membership program whereby customers can purchase $75 “shares” that can be used towards discounts on catering, priority seating and reservations, and customer-made tequila bottles. Members can redeem their shares either in restaurant credits or in cash at market value after the initial 12 months.

Working capital will go towards improving existing operations, including bulk purchases, produce futures and private tequila imports as well as funding the opening of a second location.

Since launching yesterday, Fonda Lola has raised $325; it will close the campaign April 11.
