GBC Hosts 2024 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Ontario Wines

TORONTO — George Brown College (GBC), in collaboration with the Ontario Wine Awards and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, hosted the 2024 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Ontario Wines.

The awards ceremony, a highlight of the annual Rootstock Wine Symposium, was held on June 24 at GBC’s Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts. The Honourable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and Tony Aspler presented the the awards, with the event showcasing Ontario VQA wines.

Seven wines, selected from 492 submissions, have been recognized for their overall excellence, regardless of vintage or varietal.

Winners of the 2024 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Ontario Wines include:

  • Lakeview Wine Co 2017 Sparkling Brut
  • Sue-Ann Staff 2020 Riesling
  • Big Head Wines 2019 Merlot Select
  • Flat Rock Cellars 2020 Gravity Pinot Noir
  • Domaine Queylus 2020 Chardonnay Tradition
  • Colio Estates 2020 Small Lot Meritage
  • Thirty Bench Wine Makers 2020 Small Lot Cabernet Franc

This prestigious award, a key honour within the annual Ontario Wine Awards, is given to the highest-scoring wines, judged by the Ontario Wine Awards panel comprised of master sommeliers and masters of wine.
